Parker suffers ankle injury, returns to US(AFP)Updated: 2007-08-02 08:43 SAN ANTONIO, United States - French guard Tony Parker, the Most Valuable Player (MVP) of the National Basketball Association Finals, has suffered a left ankle sprain and will return here on Friday, the San Antonio Spurs announced.
The Spurs, who swept Cleveland in June's best-of-seven NBA Finals, revealed on Wednesday that Parker was injured this week during a practice session with the French national team preparing for September's European championships. Parker, 25, will miss the Basketball without Borders Europe event in his hometown of Paris as a result of the injury. He was set to be the star attraction at the camp from August 6-10. "Unfortunately, this injury requires me to return to San Antonio so I can be examined by team doctors and begin a rehabilitation program," Parker said. "I am extremely disappointed that I cannot participate in this year's Basketball without Borders event in Paris. Since I attended the BWB in Beijing two years ago I have looked forward to hosting the event in my own country." Parker, who married actress Eva Longoria last month, will begin his rehabilitation program immediately upon his return to Texas. His status will be determined following his examination. Parker plans to rejoin the French squad as soon as he receives medical clearance, although the Spurs will be cautious about having their backcourt star risk further injury with the next NBA season about 90 days away. |
