Top seed and defending champion Nikolay Davydenko bowed out of the Sopot Open on Thursday after retiring with a foot injury.

Russian Davydenko conceded his second round match to Martin Vasallo Arguello with the Argentine ahead 2-6 6-3 2-1.

"I couldn't run after first set so I decide to withdraw. I have to recover as soon as possible," Davydenko said.
