Mourning career likely over after knee injury(Agencies)
Updated: 2007-12-21 11:58 MIAMI - Miami Heat center Alonzo Mourning has probably played his last game in the NBA after suffering a serious knee injury in what is his final season with the team. The 37-year-old underwent surgery on Thursday to repair a torn patella tendon and a torn quadriceps tendon in his right knee, injuries he suffered in the defeat to Atlanta on Wednesday. The seven-times All-Star, a member of the Heat's championship winning team in 2006, will miss the rest of the season, the team said. Mourning had retired in 2003 due to a kidney disease but returned to the game after undergoing a successful transplant. The team's all-time leader in points scored, he has appeared in all 25 games this season, and has averaged 6.0 points, 3.7 rebounds and 1.68 blocks in 15.6 minutes per game. |
