Chinese paddlers perform well at Singapore Open

Updated: 2008-06-08 20:53 SINGAPORE -- The Chinese table tennis players performed very well by winning three of all the four gold medals at this year's Singapore Open, which just ended here Sunday. In the men'singles, Chinese player Ma Long, who beat Boll Timo of Germany 4-2 in the semi-finals, won the gold medal after overcoming Samsonov Vladimir of Belarus 4-1. In the men's doubles, Chinese players Chen Qi and Li Ping defeated South Korea's Han Ji Min and Lee Jung Woo 4-2. In the women's singles, Chinese player Li Xiaoxia, who beat Feng Tianwei of Singapore 4-0 in the semi-finals, won the gold medal after she ousted her teammate Guo Yan 4-2. In the women's doubles, victory belonged to Singapore's Lee Jiawei and Sun Beibei after they defeated Lee Eun Hee and Moon Hyun Jung of South Korea 4-1. The four-day Singapore Open, the final International Table Tennis Federation (ITTF) Pro Tour tournament before the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games, opened here at the Toa Payoh Stadium on June 5, this year. |
