Updated: 2009-04-30 09:27 KINGSTON -- World record sprinter Usain Bolt of Jamaica suffered minor injuries on Wednesday when he crashed his BMW sports car on the outskirts of his Caribbean homeland's capital, authorities said.
Bolt, 22, lost control of the high-powered vehicle and plowed into a ditch on Wednesday afternoon, police said. He injured his left foot as he stepped out of the car and was treated, along with his brother and a female companion, for minor injuries at a nearby hospital. Bolt, who won the men's 100- and 200-meter competitions with record times at the Beijing Olympic Games in August, was released after treatment at the Spanish Town Hospital, his manager Norman Peart said in a statement. "We are keeping a close watch on Usain and will update the public as is necessary," he said.
