Russian gymnast Ryazanov killed in car accident

MOSCOW: Russian gymnast Yury Ryazanov who won a bronze medal last week at the world championships died in a car accident Tuesday.

The car Ryazanov was driving flew to the opposite road at 12:50 Moscow time (0850 GMT) for unknown reasons and ran into an Audi at 161 kilometers of the M-7 federal highway, the Itar-Tass news agency reported.

He died instantly, while the driver and one passenger inside the Audi were injured.

The 22-year-old Ryazanov, who was believed to have the most potential among Russian young gymnasts, finished third in the men's all-round at the recently-concluded world championships in London.
