11th World Wushu Competition opens in Ankara

ANKARA - The 11th World Wushu Competition (WWC) has opened in Turkish capital city Ankara on Sunday evening in the wake of a grand ceremony.

Chairman of the International Wushu Federation (IWF) Yu Zaiqing thanked the Turkish Wushu Federation for all their work done and will continue to do for the promotion of Wushu and its values in Turkey, Europe and across the world.

He noted that, for athletes, "the most important thing is to practice Wushu in a spirit of fair play, respect, tolerance and without doping".

While conveying Turkish Prime Minister Erdogan's greetings to this event, Turkish Minister of Youth & Sport Suat Kilic vowed that he will spare no effort in promoting Wushu in Turkey in his term.

About 700 athletes from over 83 countries and regions will compete in the week-long event, said a statement posted on the Turkish Wushu Association website.

China, as the birthplace of Wushu or Martial arts, has sent a delegation with 20 athletes to attend the competition.
