HONG KONG - A football player of the Hong Kong youth team was arrested for alleged activities in attempting to fix Tuesday night's match in Hong Kong against the Russian National Youth Team, the city's anti-graft watchdog ICAC said Wednesday in a statement.
The ICAC investigation arose from a corruption complaint. Initial investigation revealed that prior to the football match, the arrested football player had allegedly approached some of his teammates to solicit their assistance in deliberately losing the match.
Investigation also revealed that those players who were approached by the arrested player had rejected the latter's request.
The Hong Kong Football Association rendered full assistance to the ICAC during the inquiries, said the statement.
