Wolfsburg' s Junior Malanda dies in car accident

BERLIN - Wolfsburg's midfielder Junior Malanda died in a car accident, German media reports by all accounts on Saturday.

The 20-year-old midfielder died in a car accident this afternoon on a motorway near Porta Westfalica, Germany.

According to the police report Malanda sat on the backseat when the car swerved and bounced off the guardrail to crash into a tree. Junior Malanda was immediately dead whereas the other two passengers were seriously injured.

The police confirmed the Bild newspaper that "an unadjusted pace is assumed to be the cause of the accident" . The car was immediately confiscated, as experts will evaluate the traces of the accident.

Malanda was expected to meet with the rest of Wolfsburg's team at the airport to depart into the training camp in South Africa.

The youngster played through all Belgian international youth teams. He joined the "Wolves" in 2013 from Belgian side Zulte Waregem to score two goals in 17 appearances.
