"Today it was confirmed by telephone that on 29 he (Infantino) will be in Uruguay for the match against Peru (for the World Cup qualifiers)," said Wilmar Valdez, head of the AUF, while being interviewed for local radio station Sport.

The South American soccer leader said that "when he (Infantino) was elected as the FIFA president he told me: 'in March I will visit Uruguay.'"

March 30 will mark the AUF's 116th anniversary, hence "it will be a great time," said Valdez.

The head of the AUF also added that he would surely ask for support from FIFA to finance the Centenario Stadium's remodeling project. The stadium was used in the first World Cup held in Montevideo.

Swiss-Italian Infantino, 45, was elected on Friday as the new head of FIFA to succeed Joseph Blatter.
