Organizers of the IAAF Diamond League Shanghai meet launched ticket sales for this year's event on Thursday in cooperation with Shanghai Metro, aimed at providing more convenient services for spectators.
As one of the 14 legs of the International Association of Athletics Federations's global competition, the event on May 14 takes place at Shanghai Stadium, located at the junction of two major subway lines in downtown.
From Thursday, spectators could purchase specially-designed tickets for the international track and field event at eight stations including People's Square Station, Century Avenue Station and Shanghai Stadium Station.
Another 50 stations in urban Shanghai will open their own ticketing booths.
Each special ticket sold at metro outlets contains an electronic chip, which can be used as a round-trip ticket to travel back and forth between the stadium and passengers' homes or offices free of charge on May 14.
The tickets feature creative designs, including introductions to different track and field events.
Jiang Lan, CEO of Shanghai Juss Event Management Co Ltd., which co-organizes and promotes the event, said the ticket is just one example of a package of innovations that will present a brand-new look for the event and a better experience for spectators.
"It's easier for fans to come enjoy the event by commuting on subways and it's a great way to promote a more eco-friendly lifestyle," said Jiang.
