"She can not serve properly or jump as usual, and she can not hit her backhand optimally, so it makes no sense to play now," Wozniacki's father Piotr Wozniacki told Danish TV2 news.

The withdrawal was also confirmed by the WTA, which said on its official Twitter account that the Dane has withdrawn from the French Open due to a right ankle injury.

Wozniacki injured her ankle during practice in April, and has withdrawn from Denmark' s Fed Cup tie and recent clay-court tournaments in Madrid and Rome.

Her father estimated it may take another two or three weeks before she is ready to play again.

"It is too risky to play tournament now when she is not 100 percent ready. Caroline has made a great effort to get back, and we will not start too early and risk anything," Wozniacki's father said, adding that the goal is to get ready for Wimbledon later this summer.

The 26-year-old, who had held the world number one position throughout 2011, was in this year tumbled down to 34th in the world ranking.

She is next scheduled to play the Aegon Nottingham Open which begins on June 6.

The French Open is scheduled to begin on Sunday.
