The Atlanta Falcons have never won a Super Bowl. They defeated the Seattle Seahawks in the divisional round 36–20 in 2016, advancing to the NFC Championship Game for the first time since 2012. They then steamrolled the Green Bay Packers 44-21 in the NFC Championship Game to advance to Sunday's game.

Known as "Matty Ice" for his cool demeanor, Atlanta's quarterback Matt Ryan is coming off one of the best seasons in NFL history, including 38 touchdown passes and seven interceptions, making him a favorite to win the MVP award Sunday night.
