INCHEON - In an unprecedented move, the world's highest tribunal in sports will set up an office during the Asian Games in the South Korean city of Incheon to help quickly settle disputes arising from the continental competition, officials said Thursday.

The organizing committee of the Asian Games said the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS), headquartered in Switzerland, will open a temporary court in Incheon during the Sept. 19-Oct. 4 competition.

The committee said it will be the first time that the CAS will have a regional office in operation during an Asiad. The CAS has had such offices at the Olympics since the 2002 Winter Games in Salt Lake City.

The CAS rulings are final and take immediate effect. An official with the organizing committee said the CAS aims to settle disputes within 24 hours of the filing of a complaint.

"I think this move is designed to ensure disputes don't boil over any more than necessary," the official said. "The CAS also seems determined to settle disputes more actively."
