The children were from Shekou International School (SIS), QSI International School and a Japanese school. Stephen Liao, 8, a pupil at SIS, won first prize but said he didn't feel he was a foreigner living in the Shekou community.
Liang Wei, an artist and a member of the judging panel, was impressed with the paintings. Lian has held exhibitions at Guan Shanyue Art Gallery and Nanhai E-cool, an art creation base in Nanshan.
