China Central Television (CCTV) would cover the Shenzhen Universiade in six languages, a press conference was told on May 31st.

Holding exclusive television rights to the Games, CCTV would cover events in Chinese, English, Spanish, French, Arabic and Russian.

CCTV's sports channel would broadcast live the opening and closing ceremonies, said channel supervisor Jiang Heping.

"The sports channel will give daily reports of the swimming, track and field, basketball, volleyball and football matches," said Jiang.

Jiang said there would be a replay of events that China was traditionally strong in, such as diving, gymnastics, ping pong, weightlifting, shooting and badminton.

"CCTV will send a 350-member team to Shenzhen, all of whom were involved in the broadcasting of the Beijing Olympics and Guangzhou Asian Games," said Jiang.

A variety of programs would be shown on the sports channel on each day of the Games, including interviews with active and retired athletes, as well as successful people with sports experience.

Another team of about 210 people would be set up to produce international common TV signals in eight sports, Jiang said.

In addition to the sports channel, CCTV's news and international channels would be involved in Games coverage.

"As well as reporting inside the event venues, we will extend our coverage to the whole of Shenzhen to reflect to the world its modern image and fast development," Jiang said.

Shenzhen TV will be the host broadcaster for the Games, due to open Aug. 12.
