On July 14, the secretary of the Shenzhen municipal party committee, Wang Rong, answered questions from Chinese media at a press conference held at Shenzhen's Wuzhou Hotel.
Wang told the press that Shenzhen is ready; the whole city is looking forward to achieving the core principle of the Universiade: Start here, make a difference!
Wang said the Universiade center and the Universiade village are the main venues for the Shenzhen Universiade, as well as the new symbols of Shenzhen.
The 2011 Universiade will feature the most events and the largest number participants in the gathering's history. More than 10,000 athletes, coaches and team leaders will participate in 24 sports.
Wang also said the Shenzhen marine administration hosted a joint rehearsal in western waters on July 6 to ensure a safe Shenzhen Universiade.
A full-scale drill for the opening ceremony of the Universiade was held on July 9, during which 13,000 students posing as athletes, reporters and officials were transported in 424 buses from the Athletes' Village in Longgang to Shenzhen Bay Sports Center in Nanshan.
About 250,000 volunteer workers will be at the games. Among them are university students, workers, overseas students, public servants and community security personnel.
Wang said the 26th Universiade is like a big exam, and he feels like an examinee. He said he feels a bit nervous but mostly confident. He is ready; Shenzhen is ready.
