Celebrities back 'green' Universiade

An online campaign to promote a green commuting plan during the period of the Shenzhen Universiade from Aug 12 to 23 has been well received by the nation’s TV, film and other entertainment stars.

Launched by the local newspaper, Shenzhen Special Zone Daily, on China's twitter-like Sina Weibo and Tencent microblogs as well as on local online forums on Friday, the campaign called for citizens to commit to low carbon emissions and environmental protection in preparation for the games.

The message has been forwarded hundreds of times by internet bloggers including famous producer Xu Benben from Time with a Stewardess, Liu Yang, a DJ from Feiyang 971, Tang Lei and Xu Qianya, singers from Shenzhen, Wang Hailin, a screenwriter, and Liu Qingdong, a Phoenix Satellite TV host.
