On 10 February 2010, the 122nd IOC session at Vancouver announced Nanjing as the host city for the 2nd Summer Youth Olympic Games.
The slogan of the Nanjing 2014 Youth Olympic Games is "Share the Games, Share our Dreams".
Nanjing 2014 aims to:
Boost self-discovery, active participation and creativity among young people, both in the sports arenas and in their everyday lives;
Promote understanding of different cultures, build friendships and help young people to appreciate responsibility in a mature way;
Advocate fair competition and respect for rules;
Build awareness for a healthy lifestyle and protection of the environment;
Boost young people's self-confidence
The Nanjing 2014 Youth Olympic Games will encompass all 28 sports on the Olympic programme (Sports overview)and will be held from 16 to 28 August. The Nanjing Youth Olympic Games Organising Committee (NYOGOC) will work together with the International Olympic Committee (IOC) to attract the best young athletes from around the world to compete at the highest level. Off the competition fields, an integrated culture and education programme will focus on discussions about education, Olympic values, social challenges, and cultural diversity. The YOG aims to spread the Olympic spirit and encourage sports participation.
The Nanjing 2014 Youth Olympic Games will represent a happy and healthy platform for the world's youths. This grand stage will be supported by both organisational staff and volunteers. The YOG also focuses on interconnection, leveraging on social media to foster interactions between athletes, audiences, youths of the world and the sporting world. All the participants will be connected through the Olympic values of Excellence, Friendship and Respect. They will experience cultural diversity, develop a healthy lifestyle and promote the sustainable development of our world.
