CARACAS - Venezuelans Tuesday celebrated their country's first gold medal of the 2014 Youth Olympic Games in Nanjing, China.
Venezuela's Maria Simancas, 17, won the gold medal in the 8x100 meter mixed relay in a time of 1:40:20.
The runner dominated the event, beating competitors from Germany, Russia, the British Virgin Islands, Romania, Thailand, Australia and Comoros.
Prior to that race, Simancas ran the 400 meters in a time of 54.22 seconds to finish 11th.
