China's quality watchdog announced Friday that Shanghai General Motors Co from Dec 30 will recall a section of the Buick Excelle sedan manufactured during the period from Jan 17, 2006 to Dec 2, 2011, with a total of 1,218,163 cars are involved.

Chevrolet's New Sail model is also on the recall list. The company will recall 243,297 New Sails manufactured during the period from April 9, 2009 to Oct 8, 2011.

China Defective Products Administration Center said that these cars have a potential risk of cracks in the fuel pump bracket that may cause fuel leaks and safety hazards. Shanghai GM will replace the defective fuel pump bracket.

The center also announced that Chang'an Ford Automobile Co planned on Feb 21 next year to recall 80,857 Ford Kuga manufactured during the period from Sept 21, 2012 to Nov 13 this year owing to the substandard wheel knuckles.

The Ford Kuga SUV is the Chinese version of the Ford Escape.

Chang'an Ford will replace the front left and right wheel knuckles to eliminate the safety risk.

An earlier report said the carmaker investigated the safety issue and halted the SUV's production.

The cracks in the front wheel knuckles frequently occurred across China and car owners filed complaints to the quality agency in December.
