The Grand Carnival is returning to Shanghai after six years, and it promises to be bigger and better at the Expo Park in Pudong, for 100 days through Oct 30.
"We decided to postpone the opening from July 23 to 28 so that the quality supervisors will be able to complete all the inspections," said Wu Liangyu, from the organizers.
A "bat coaster", the biggest in the world, will be one of the five roller coasters at the Grand Carnival.
The carnival will take up 80,000 square meters space in the Expo Park. Tent covers and mist fans will help visitors stay cool and organizers also took precautions against thunder and typhoon. Equipment is in place to keep watch for strong wind or rainstorms.
The carnival first arrived in 2003 and returned in 2005, people lined up for hours for the rides. It was the talk of the town throughout the whole summer of 2003.
"We've kept about 40 of the most popular and most sensational items, and introduced another 10 that have never been in China," said Du Yongping, vice-director of the carnival organizer.
The Movie Star Ferris Wheel will take riders up 100 meters for a lofty experience, while Sling Shots and Ejection Seat will take you up and down, back and forth, on heart-thudding rides.
Those in the mood for Halloween can visit the Fortress of Fear, where dark demons, ghosts and spirits spring out from unexpected corners.
Different theme events will be held during the 100 days, in celebration of traditional Chinese Lovers' Day, Mid-Autumn Festival and the National Day Holiday, when live performances will be staged.
