IF YOU GO

The Tibetan New Year usually lasts for 15 days. The first day is for raucous gathering where families and friends drink, sing and dance from morning until night (or until they pass out).

On the third day of the New Year, families will hang colorful prayer flags on the roof. In Lhasa, that day will also see a heavyweight horse-racing event that draws the entire city's attention.
