The US Guam tourism authority recently kicked off a road show in China, with stops in Shanghai, Beijing and Guangzhou.

Later this year, a Pacific arts festival and marathon will be staged in Guam to spice up experiences for tourists.

The annual road show is one of the most important marketing events for the local tourism authority. It brings together tourism business players from Guam and the Chinese mainland, creating opportunities for cooperation.

In 2015, mainlanders paid more than 23,000 visits to the island, a surge of 62 percent. The Guam authority hoped to attract 35,000 visits this year through its marketing promotions.

Chinese paid approximately 3 million visits to the US last year, up 16 percent over the previous year.

The US-China tourism year, 10-year multiple entry visa to the US and increased flights between China and Guam are expected to give more incentives to Chinese tourists, officials say.

Magnificent island scenery, diverse water sports, romantic wedding churches and duty-free shopping have made Guam an attractive destination for tourists worldwide.
