A small open-pit coal mine was found behind the Hanging Monastery, a 1,500-year-old temple in Shanxi province, triggering Web users to criticize local government's negligence over the amazing ancient structure carved on a sheer cliff. The Hanging Monastery, also known as Xuankong Temple, is a major historical and cultural site protected at the national level.
