A private kindergarten that suffered a drug scandal in Lanzhou, Gansu province, has been changed into a public one and renamed Qilihe District Xihu Kindergarten.

The local government in Qilihe district promised to purchase basic medical insurance for children who were given antiviral drugs without permission.

Shenzhen is sparing no effort to solve the overstaffing issue that has caused low efficiency in the justice department. From 2011 until now ,almost 6,000 judges quit their jobs in droves due to work pressure. However, there are a large number of administrative staff in the justice department who cannot make up for the prosecutors' heavy work load, China Youth Daily reported.

Hebei province is promoting a plan to build 34 key parks covering 1,140 square kilometers. The mayor of Baoding, said they are preparing to receive some national administrative agencies, universities, institutions and health care organizations that are moving there from Beijing.

2 juveniles accused of setting buses on fire

Two juveniles were detained in Wuhan for setting five electric buses on fire and damaging a car on Saturday, chinanews.com reported.

The five buses caught fire around midnight when the juveniles tried to steal the safety hammers on the buses in the city's Hankou district.

They used lighters to burn through strings that restrict the hammer, igniting the trim.

Truck driver fined in worker's death

A truck driver whose vehicle collided with a train and killed a person was fined 330,000 yuan ($53,200) in a trial on Saturday. The driver, surnamed Liu, was driving a company-owned truck from Tianjin to Beijing when he drove through a railway crossing despite the no-crossing warning, colliding with a passing train. One railway crossing guard died and another was severely injured.

Parents of locked-in girl to be compensated

The parents of a 5-year-old girl who suffered heatstroke after she was locked inside a Beijing kindergarten will receive 37,000 yuan ($5,960) compensation. A court in Tongzhou district made the ruling recently. The girl was forgotten and locked in the kindergarten for six hours in August.

Recidivism rate low in capital city: survey

A citywide survey conducted by the prison management bureau of Beijing showed that 5.89 percent of prisoners released between 2007 and 2009 committed another crime within five years, Beijing Youth Daily reported on Sunday. Prisons in Beijing have introduced programs to help prisoners improve their psychological health. The survey was conducted from 2011 to 2013.

Teen girl falls into sewer

A 16-year-old girl fell into a sewer on the way home in Liaobu town in Dongguan, South China's Guangdong province, on Sunday. She was unconscious when police found her in a pond near the sewer.

The girl is named Xiaowen. She is a student at a Dongguang technical school, where she is majored in accounting, Southern Metropolis reported.
