Kissing piggy fulfills promise

A vice principal at a primary school was true to his word, kissing a pig after pupils stopped littering around the school gate, Southern Metropolis Daily reported.

Hong Yaoming, of Xianning Experimental Primary School in Hubei province, promised, at a flag-raising ceremony at the campus in March, that he would kiss a pig in public if pupils stopped littering. He fulfilled his pledge on Monday as the school’s sanitation improved substantially within the past month.

Up, up and away

Farmer Xue Yongqin from Weinan city in Shaanxi province, a 58-year-old aviation fan, bought a light aircraft in Nov 2013 and can now fly solo after becoming the oldest owner and pilot of a private light aircraft in the country, Shaanxi-based news website cnwest.com reported.

Xue loves flying and also uses the plane to spread pesticides to other farms as a source of income.

Bus barbecue ban

A barbecue restaurant owner transformed a bus into a six-table dining place after local urban management workers, known as chengguan, started to eradicate open-air barbecues in the Tongzhou district of Beijing, the Beijing Morning Post reported.

But the chengguan said it is illegal to operate a business in a public area and the bus must leave no later than Thursday.

Money for nothing

A man climbed a 30-meter-high bridge before throwing cash in Luzhou city, Sichuan province. He threw almost 10,000 yuan, which was collected by firemen and residents, and police had 9,600 yuan handed in to them. Whether the man is mentally ill is still under investigation, Sichuan-based news website newssc.org reported.

Payout for graft probes

An elderly man in Lingbi county has been awarded compensation by the local government after spending 43,000 yuan ($6,880) on investigations related to corruption cases, Market Star News Daily reported. Tang Zun, 75, reported corruption cases involving his village head and paid for the village's accounts to be checked in 2003. Nine village heads were found to be corrupt and were punished, but Tang ran up debts.

Cars marked to prevent abuses

The government in Yizhang county has marked official cars with logos and phone numbers as part of public supervision measures, China News Service reported on Monday. All cars used by government officials have been marked with a logo stating "public car" along with phone numbers for the public to report cases of vehicles being used for private purposes.

Good Samaritan rewarded after 29 years

A man in Zhenjiang received a letter of thanks and a gift from a woman he helped 29 years ago, Modern Express reported on Monday. The man said he gave 5 yuan ($0.80) to a middle-aged woman who asked for help after losing money at Zhenjiang railway station in 1985 when he was 23. The woman, Yang Aiyu, now 76, said in the letter that she wrote down the man's name and address but did not find him until 2012.

Buyer duped over 'smartphone' sale

A man in Dongguang county bought what he thought was a smartphone for 680 yuan ($109) but later found it was a fake, Yanzhao Metropolis Daily reported on Monday. The man wanted to have an iPhone but found they were expensive. On April 22, he met a man in the street and was shown an iPhone costing 680 yuan, which he bought. After finding it was a fake, he reported the case to police.
