Man caught for molesting elderly women

A man in Xiayi county in Shangqiu city of Henan province has been detained for allegedly raping and molesting more than 10 "leftover" elderly women and stealing, Beijing Times reported Monday.

Wang Jun, 49, reportedly sneaked into their houses and sexually assaulted them on about 40 occasions, since 2011 to March this year. The victims range from 95 to 73 years old.

The county has been dubbed a "leftover village" as most of the men are working outside, leaving the elderly unattended.

Official rides on subordinate's back to save shoes

A Jiangxi official has been removed from his position for letting his subordinate carry him on his back over a patch of water as he did not want his shoes to get wet, while working at a rescue site where two students had drowned, chinanews.com reported Monday.

Wang Junhua, deputy director of the government office of Guixi city, Jiangxi province, allowed Ding Xianbao to carry him on Saturday.

Although it was Ding who had offered to help him across the water, but Wang was removed as his behavior damaged the image of Party officials, Jiangxi Provincial People's Government Information Office said via a Weibo post. The story was first revealed on Weibo.

Crocodile pet

A Chongqing man tried to keep a 1.7-meter crocodile as a pet but was afraid of it, so that he donated it to a local wildlife breeding and protection center, Chongqing Economic Times reported Monday.

The man surnamed Fu kept the crocodile in his roof garden for about 12 days, but the reptile's ferocious looks and bone-chilling noises gave him second thoughts, especially after his eight-year-old daughter began crying when she saw the crocodile for the first time. Fu donated the reptile to Chongqing Crocodile Center on Sunday.

Dog meat hits record prices in Yulin

Dog meat hit a record price of 50 yuan ($8) per kilogram at the controversial dog meat festival in Yulin, South China's Guangxi province, on Saturday, Beijing Morning Post reported on Monday.

It also said that local police, which patrolled the area the whole day, did not interfer with dog meat eaters but showed no mercy to trouble makers. A dog meat restaurant posted banners that Yulin people love dog meat but love laws more and called for no violence between dog eaters and animal rights activists. Many people crowded around two foreign visitors and took their pictures as they tasted dog meat.

Man accused of killing his 1-year-old son

A Sichuan man has been arrested on suspicion of killing his 1-year-old son, the Chengdu Business News reported on Sunday. The Panzhihua man, surnamed Zheng, decided to kill himself and his son after arguing with his parents on June 3, officials said. He took his son to the riverside and threw the child into the water, but then decided not to kill himself, prosecutors said.

Landlord detained for renting illegally

A landlord in Guangzhou, Guangdong province was detained for five days and fined 5,000 yuan ($803) after she was found to have allowed foreigners whose visas had expired to stay at her place. The 59-year-old woman, surnamed Liang, rented her house in Guangzhou's Yuexiu district to a foreigner in April 2012, but she did not report the rental to police. Many foreigners have rented from Liang but she never checked their information, police said.

Two reporters working on a story about an illegal school in Nanjing city of Jiangsu province were attacked by staff members at the institution, according to a report by people.com.cn. The reporters' cameras were also taken, and some parents who had accompanied the reporters to the illegal school were slapped by staff members. The reporters learned about the illegal school after a parent surnamed Liu enrolled his child at the Nanjing Institute of Space Management last year. He later discovered that the school doesn't have any educational qualifications and that fake graduation certificates can be bought all over the country.
