A 600-ton monomer jade was discovered in Northwest China to challenge the world's biggest jade record, chinanews.com reported on Thursday.

The jade is a monomer tremolite jade, measuring 8 meters in diameter, 4 meters in height and 3 meters in width. Its volume is 96 cubic meters and it weighs an estimated 600 tons. It was discovered in Kuandian Manchu autonomous county of Dandong, Northeast China's Liaoning province. The local authority said that it will apply for the stone to be recognized as the new world record holder.

Civilian carries helicopter and tank on the road

A civilian semitrailer loaded with a helicopter and a tank was intercepted at an interprovincial toll station by the traffic police in Wenzhou, East China's Zhejiang province, people.com.cn reported on Thursday.

According to the driver of the semitrailer, he was on his way to participate in an exhibition. The helicopter and tank he carried were released from military service and were refitted as artwork after dismantling the engines and weapons.

The two captured much attention as drivers on the road slowed down to watch them which posed a threat to road safety, a police officer said.

Snake sneaks into home, terrifying resident

A python sneaked into the home of a Chongqing resident, causing a panic, the Chongqing Commercial Daily reported on Friday.

The five-meter-long monster sneaked into the balcony of a woman's home on Thursday morning, leaving the woman dumbfounded. Firefighters rushed to the scene upon receiving a call from the woman and managed to capture the snake.

It turns out that the reptile is an upstairs neighbor's pet, but according to police, the snake is a national-protected animal and is not allowed to be raised by citizens.

An alleged college student claimed to rent out his girlfriend for the purchase of an iPhone 6 in Songjiang college town in Shanghai on Sept 15, the Xinmin Evening Post reported on Wednesday.

The man, about 20 years old, drew a crowd of onlookers by holding up a placard reading "girlfriend sharing". Customers were supposed to pay for services like studying and playing games in the company of the man's "girlfriend". In the placard, prices were marked as 10 yuan per hour, 50 yuan per day, or 500 yuan per month.

An attentive netizen criticized the behavior as a commercial show, for a line of words at the foot of the placard disclosed the real purpose was to promote software.

Woman ingests 44 packets of heroin

Xi'an police found a woman who had ingested 44 packets of heroin, Huashang Daily reported on Thursday. The 42-year-old woman, surnamed Guo, was found by Xi'an police to be acting unusually during a routine check on Sept 4 on a bus from Chengdu, the capital of Sichuan province, and she was taken to the police station. Female police officers there found two packets of heroin in Guo's pants and learned that she had swallowed 44 thumb-sized packets of heroin. The total weight of the heroin in Guo's body was 400 grams.

Girl, 5, dies after being run over by mother

A 5-year-old girl died in Nantong on Sunday after she was run over by her mother, who was backing her car into a parking space at their home, Modern Express Daily reported. The woman's husband and daughter had gotten out of the car at about 9 pm and the daughter had walked behind the car when the woman backed the vehicle into a space at her housing estate in Chongchuan district. The daughter later died in a hospital.

Woman says debtor ate IOUs during dispute

A woman in Puyang surnamed Wang claims that another woman, surnamed Zhang, failed to repay a debt of 200,000 yuan ($32,500), Dahe Daily reported. Wang said Zhang tore up IOUs and ate them during a quarrel when she asked her to repay the money. But police refused to investigate the case, as Wang could only provide a rudimentary copy of an IOU. Lawyers said Wang could take action against Zhang if she can provide more evidence.
