Stories about young people avoiding home during Spring Festival to escape familial pressures aren't new, but a family preventing their daughter returning home, that's a new story.
A woman surnamed Wang in Jinan, Shandong province has been barred from returning home in Weifang during the upcoming Spring Festival, the most important Chinese festival, by her father.
In the past, Wang had celebrated the Chinese New Year with her husband's family, but this year she wanted to go home. However, due to a local tradition, it's taboo for her to return.
According to the local customs, it is unlucky for a married daughter to return home during the Spring festival if she has a brother.
While Wang's father wants to reunite with his daughter, he doesn't want to bring bad luck to the family.
