Farmer makes legendary 'Golden hoop'

In the Chinese classic Journey to the West, the Monkey King is disciplined by a Golden Hoop on his head, which becomes tighter when an incantation is read by his master, causing a headache. Now someone has made the Golden Hoop for real, bringing the legendary object to life.

A pair of mechanical tongs, 2.1m in length and 2.6kg in weight, attached to a pole, was created by a 45-year-old famer, Xi Yuejiu, to capture attackers and curb violence in Northeast China's Jilin province, xwh.cn reported on April 19.

Like the Golden Hoop, it becomes tighter once it grips onto someone. The tongs will automatically clinch the captive's limb when it touches them. The tongs become tighter if the captive struggles.

The mechanical tongs could be used by the police or for rescue.
