Passenger sues Beijing subway for broken leg

The Beijing subway is notoriously crowded, especially during peak hours. And it takes a toll on passengers sometimes, reported Beijing Times.

Mr Shao boarded the subway Line 1 during morning rush hour last October, and he said people started crowding into the carriage before it was fully opened. Shao said he was forced into the train with the crowds when he felt a sharp pain in his right leg, which appeared to have broken.

Shao was later carried from the carriage and sent to hospital. He was diagnosed with a broken leg and ruptured ligament. He underwent surgery in which he had a steel plate and eight screws implanted.

As a result of being unable to work for months, Shao lost his job and he is suing the subway operator for medical expenses and nursing fees totaling more than 54,000 yuan ($8,700).

The case has been accepted by Shijingshan court.
