Ancient salt lake turns pink

The color of an ancient salt lake in Yuncheng, Shanxi province has turned to rose pink on Thursday, attracting many local residents to visit the area.

Local people have been extracting salt crystals from the lake for over 4,000 years. People can float on the lake's surface due to the water's high salinity, which has earned the lake the name "China's Dead Sea."

The lake has turned a rose pink color because of the mineral substances evaporating as the temperature rises. It is also caused by red-colored algae called dunaliella salinas in the lake.
