Buried savings grow moldy

What is the safest way to keep your money? Many would point to the bank, but an elderly man in Xinjiang Uygur autonomous region literally buried his money in the ground to keep it safe.

Having never been to a bank before, the 55-year-old Liu Zhimin buried 33,970 yuan ($5,472) which he had earned in the past two years in his backyard to prevent theft. When he wanted to dig it out to renovate his house, Liu found out that most of the money had gone moldy.

Luckily for Liu, the Agricultural Bank of China converted all his moldy banknotes into brand-new ones. Perhaps he will use a bank this time.
