Boss allows employees to check stocks at work

A boss of a media company in Chongqing allowed employees to spend one hour at work researching the stock market  as a company benefit.

The employees were able to put their works aside for half an hour each in the morning and afternoon to take care of the their investments in the stock market, according to local newspaper the Chongqing Morning Post.

Cui Jie, owner of the company, said he had to announce the new policy in late last month because there were too many employees who were also stock investors.

According to Cui, the employees were making all kinds of excuses to avoid work during the opening and closing hours of the market because China's stock market took off recently.

Although Cui made it clear the employees should not keep their eyes on the market out of the one-hour window, many were still willing to break the rules even though it incurred a 300-yuan penalty.

The two-week-old benefit was abolished after a two week trial.
