Centenarian becomes literate at 100 years old

It's never too old to learn, and this is especially true for Zhao Shunjin, a 100-year-old granny living in Hangzhou, capital of East China's Zhejiang province.

Having never gone to school, Zhao eventually decided to learn to read at 100. She enrolled in a 10-day course in June and succeeded in getting a certificate of literacy, Qianjiang Evening News reported Tuesday.

Surprised and moved by Zhao's decision to attend the lessons, community workers decided to teach Zhao how to read separately.

Before the course, Zhao could only read her own name. But now she is literate and can read more than 100 Chinese characters. She can now read and write characters like fish, celery as well as her home address.

She passed the exam and received the certificate on Monday. "Mom, you are superb!" exclaimed her son.

In our final story, meet the man who lives on an excavator.
