Homemade sports car stuns at auto show

A flashy sport car has stunned the spectators at the 2015 Hainan International Automotive Industry Exhibition which just concluded on July 13. The car, neither Maserati nor Lamborghini, turned out to be an ingenuous homemade masterpiece by a 27-year-old man, whose biggest hobby is car design.

It took Chen Yinxi, the inventor, half a year to build the electric car, and it cost him 30,000 yuan ($4,800).

But the car, which can only run at the maximum speed of about 60 kilometers per hour, is not allowed on the roads.

Majoring in automobile engineering at college, Chen said he always wanted to be a car designer, and spent two years teaching himself car design at school. But his family wanted him to work at the family factory which he might inherit from his father one day.

His father, Chen Ziming, is supportive of his son's hobby though, and said it would be great if the car he designed could receive some recognition from auto manufacturers or bring in some money through leasing it out for photos.

Speaking of flashy cars, a mother refuses to smash the window of a BMW to save her toddler son, in our next story.
