Man builds plane for 28,000 yuan

For some, designing a handmade aircraft can be a very satisfying experience - like this farmer in a county in Pingliang city, Gansu province, who spent two years building his own airplane, although it doesn't actually fly, dfic reported on Monday.

The 50-year-old Chen Lianxue, who has worked most of his life as an electrician, has always been fascinated by aviation. Two years ago, he spent 28,000 yuan making his own airplane, and finally it has been completed. The wings are 4.2 meters in length, its body is 10.5 meters long and 1.6 meters tall.

"I flew it before, but it didn't go very well," the report quoted Chen as saying. "Now, I'm going to make the wings 8.5 meters long and 1.4 meters thick, also the tail design needs to be improved, probably by next year I will test it again," he said.

According to Chen, if the test is successful, his airplane won't only be used for travel, but also be used to spray fields with pesticides and fertilizers and to help put out wildfires.
