Benchmark index closes above 3,000 points

BEIJING - Chinese shares closed higher Wednesday with the benchmark Shanghai Composite Index up 2.21 points, or 0.07 percent, to 3,002.15, slightly above the market's psychological expectation of 3,000 points.

The Shenzhen Component Index gained 14.03 points, or 0.11 percent, to 13,158.22 points.
