The data issued by the National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC) showed that China's daily wastewater treatment capacity reached 65 million tons by the end of last year.

During the past five years, China increased its capacity to decontaminate urban garbage by 200,000 tons per day.

China's rising investment on wastewater and garbage treatment contributed to its environmental promotion drive, according to NDRC.

By the end of 2010, China had over 200 wastewater and garbage treatment enterprises with annual revenues topping 1 billion yuan ($152 million) each, it said.
