United States-based IT giant Dell Corp’s third-quarter net profit slid 47 percent globally, despite a quarter-to-quarter sales increase in the Chinese market, the company said on Friday.

According to the company’s executives in a conference call, China was “the highlight” in Asia-Pacific region, where the company's business decreased 11 percent year-on-year.

Net profit was at $475 million with a 47 percent decrease year-on-year, hurt by weak PC sales and decreasing demand from large corporations.

Third-quarter revenue was $13.7 billion, and the company expects revenue growth of 2 to 5 percent in the fourth quarter.

"We’re encouraged by early interest in our new Windows 8 touch portfolio and the opportunities it creates for our commercial and consumer businesses,” said Brian Gladden, Dell chief financial officer.
