China's quality watchdog warned on Friday of the risk of importing Aston Martin vehicles after the automaker said it will recall more than 1,000 vehicles in China.

The British luxury carmaker announced earlier this month that it is recalling 17,590 cars globally, including more than 1,000 cars sold in China, after discovering counterfeit plastic material in its accelerator pedal arms.

In a statement, the General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine said Chinese dealers of Aston Martin sports cars should stop importing and selling its products. The authority said Aston Martin manufactured the problematic products between Nov 11, 2007, and Dec 31, 2013. The authority reminded Aston Martin car owners to contact their local car dealers to comply with the recall.
