China's Canton Fair holds conference in Vietnam

HANOI - The China import and export fair (as known as Canton Fair) held a conference here on Thursday to introduce about its 109th session.

Co-organized by China Foreign Trade Center, Chinese embassy in Vietnam and Vietnam Chamber of Commerce and Industry (VCCI), the conference is one of the opportunities to attract more Vietnamese enterprises to participate in Canton Fair exhibitions.

Chen Chaoren, Deputy Director General of China Foreign Trade Center said at the conference that during the recent years, China- Vietnam have stepped into a new stage in bilateral relationship.

China has become Vietnam's largest trading partner for recent six years, said Chen.

The Canton Fair plays a very important role in promoting China-Vietnam trade cooperation. The recent five fair sessions have drew the participation of over 13,000 Vietnamese enterprises, according to Chen.

Hu Suojin, Economic Counselor of the Chinese Embassy in Vietnam said that the fair is an ideal place to showcase variety of Chinese's products as well as foreign goods.

The Canton Fair is a link between China and other countries and regions in trade cooperation, said Hu.

China has become Vietnam's biggest export market. In 2010, bilateral trade turnover between China and Vietnam reached $30 billion. Among those, Vietnam's exports turnover to China gained 7 billion U.S. dollars, up 47 percent year-on-year, accounting for one tenth of total Vietnam's exports, said Hu.

Deputy Director of VCCI International Relations Department Pham Quang Thinh said that bilateral trade turnover between Vietnam and China's Guangdong province reached $5 billion in 2010.

The Canton fair is a place to introduce and bring Vietnamese products into China's market, said Thinh.

At the conference, China Foreign Trade Center and the VCCI signed a cooperation agreement to further strengthen bilateral cooperation between Vietnam and China.
