Buildings that were supposed to bring relief to earthquake victims in Yao'an county, Southwest China's Yunnan province will be demolished and reconstructed as soon as possible, Yunnan Info Daily reported on Friday.

A powerful earthquake hit Yunnan's Yao'an county in July 2009, leaving thousands of local people homeless. However, a year after, they suffered another disaster – widening cracks in their new government-planned post-quake welfare houses, according to a report from Yunan Info Daily on July 13, 2010.

Since the report was published, the Yao'an government started an investigation and reconstruction work on the derelict buildings.

At present, 90 buildings of porous quality have been knocked down and will be reconstructed in three months. Others are still in evaluation.
