BEIJING - Zhou Haiying, the son of the famous 20th century Chinese writer Lu Xun, died from an illness in Beijing on Thursday morning aged 81.

The State Administration of Radio, Film and Television (SARFT), the government agency that Zhou once worked for, issued an obituary on its website.

A funeral service will be held on April 11 at Babaoshan Cemetery in western Beijing.

Zhou Haiying was born in September 1929 in Shanghai and was the author of the book Lu Xun and Me in 70 Years.

Zhou studied in the physics department at Peking University in the 1950s and later joined the Broadcasting Administration, the predecessor of SARFT. He was an expert in radio communications.

His father Lu Xun, who died in 1936, was among leading Chinese writers who helped bring Chinese literature into the modern era with novels including The True Story of Ah Q and A Madman's Diary.

Lu Xun's real name was Zhou Shuren.
