BYD Auto Co Ltd signed a contract with the Shenzhen public transportation sector to provide 200 pure electric buses and 300 pure electric taxis for the upcoming 26th Universiade (World University Games), CarsChina.com reported on Wednesday.

It is a financial leasing contract, according to the report. After the games, these vehicles will serve for the city's public transportation system.

BYD, the Shenzhen-listed car maker, said the electric taxis have been tested in a one-year trial operation and the electric buses have also been tested in the past half year.

These electric taxis use a special iron battery that BYD developed, which can make the cars run 250 kilometers with a 20-minute battery charge.
