Li Jinjun, vice minister of the International Department of the CPC Central Committee, urged political leaders in Europe to help strengthen the consensus, political trust and cooperation between the two economies.
China firmly supports the integration process in Europe and the stability of the euro, because a prosperous and united Europe is beneficial to China and the world, and China will continue to assist EU in resolving its debt crisis, Li said at the third China-EU High Level Political Parties meeting in Brussels.
"China as the second-largest trade partner of Europe provides not only low-cost consumer goods, a huge export market and investment area but also the momentum and opportunities to upgrade EU industries," Li said.
Europe can inspire China to cope with challenges in many areas. The senior CPC official said EU's experience in building social welfare systems can contribute to China’s social security system, particularly when China is undergoing massive urbanization.
Li said there is room to cooperate in areas such as low-carbon technology, biotechnology, and new resources.
He also suggested exploring the feasibility of establishing "a community of interests" since the two sides have adopted similar positions in many regional and world issues, emphasizing negotiation and dialogue.
"What will happen if we combine Europe design and Chinese manufacturing and combine Europe technology and Chinese market?"
Li said he believed that the shared interests are much larger than the differences, so China and EU should form effective mechanisms in reducing the conflicts and risks.
He said the CPC has always been open-minded and political parties should bear the responsibility to help shape public opinion conducive to further development of comprehensive China-EU relations.
