GUANGZHOU - University of Macao's new campus based in Hengqin Island in south China's Guangdong province is expected to be put into use in September, according to the provincial government.
The campus will accommodate about 10,000 students within three years, said Chui Sai On, chief executive of the Macao Special Administrative Region at a joint work conference with the Guangdong provincial government on Friday.
Guangdong provincial governor Zhu Xiaodan said the contractor is currently inspecting the project and debugging the equipment in order to hand in the campus to Macao smoothly.
Construction of the new campus, based in Hengqin Island in Zhuhai City which neighbors Macao, started on December 20, 2009. Its area will be 20 times larger than its headquarters in Macao.
