Suspect charged in Beijing airport blast

BEIJING -- A Beijing district procuratorate on Thursday filed charges against a man suspected of causing an explosion in the Beijing Capital International Airport.

The wheelchair-bound man, identified as Ji Zhongxing from East China's Shandong province, set off a homemade explosive device outside the airport's Terminal 3 arrivals exit on July 20, according to the Beijing Chaoyang District People's Procuratorate.

Ji himself suffered arm injuries and a police officer suffered non-serious injuries in the explosion.

Ji has been in custody since July 21.

According to the country's criminal law, anyone who causes explosion or uses other dangerous means to endanger public security without causing serious consequences shall be sentenced to a fixed-term imprisonment of no less than three years but no more than ten years.
