World Ocean Week will make a splash in Xiamen, Fujian province, on Nov 8.
The event aims to boost development of marine industries and to promote the sustainable utilization of marine resources.
Initiated in 2005, the annual event provides a working platform for international cooperation and communication among governments of the coastal cities, national agencies, and experts in marine science and technology.
World Ocean Week, which will last until Nov 14, will be held under the theme "Development of the Blue Economy—Opportunities, Cooperation and Win-Win".
During the week, 12 forums and workshops, two marine exhibitions, and four marine cultural activities will be staged.
